Is SimURL free?
Yes. Both SimURL and SimURL+ are free.

Why do people use SimURL?
To make a long web address (i.e. URL) short. That way you can rest assured that the link will not break when you send a short SimURL via email or instant messenger. SimURL can also be used to hide your email address from email harvesting programs that spammers use to automatically pull email addresses from message boards, chat rooms, and web pages.

How do I use SimURL protect my email address from spammers?
To generate your own redirecting SimURL email address, enter the following in the input box on our homepage... mailto:YOUR-EMAIL-ADDRESS (i.e. mailto:joe@yahooooo.com) Then when anyone clicks on the resulting SimURL (i.e. http://simurl.com/rezdiz) in a message board, chat room, or web page, their email program will open up with your email address already inserted.

Is SimURL+ free?
Yes, but you must take 30 seconds to set up your free SimURL+ account so you can access your private stats.

Why do individuals use SimURL+?
Individuals like to see how many times a SimURL that they sent to their friends or colleagues has been clicked or if it was even clicked at all.

Why do webmasters use SimURL+?
Those that run websites and opt-in email lists like to use SimURL+ as it allows them to determine if the links that they are posting and sending are of any interest to their visitors. It also allows webmasters to ensure that long, meaningless affiliate links make it to their intended target and with a more descriptive/customized name.

I can't login to SimURL+. What's up?
You must have cookies enabled to login to SimURL+. To turn cookies on in...
Microsoft Internet Explorer - Select the "Tools" menu and choose "Internet Options" --- Click on the "Security" tab move the vertical slider to medium high --- Click "OK"
Firefox - Select "Tools" then "Options" then click the "Privacy" icon then "Cookies" and then check "allow sites to set cookies."

Some spammer used a SimURL within their spam. I want to do something about it. What should I do?
If you see a spam that includes a SimURL.com redirect and want to do something about it, we suggest that you go to the actual website being promoted. To stop a spammer, you need to get at the source. From there you can contact the webmaster who is actually benefiting from the spam. If there is no contact information on the website being promoted, perform a whois search on the destination URL and then use the resulting information to contact the webmaster and/or their hosting service. If you like, you can send us an e-mail to spam at SimURL.com and include the suspect SimURL in the subject of the e-mail. We will be happy to delete it.

What is the maximum number characters allowed for a SimURL+ alias?
Currently, a SimURL+ alias can be no more than 100 characters.

Which characters can be used in a SimURL+ alias?
All the usual characters: 0-9 A-Z a-z +-= !@$%*'(),._"/?&:; However, "?" can only be used only once.

Is SimURL case sensitive?
Yes. Aaaa and AAAA are not the same and will direct to completely different URLs.

Why doesn't Mozilla store my newly created SimURL in the clipboard?
This is an issue with Mozilla. According to Mozilla, you can solve it by doing the following...
- Quit Mozilla. If you have Quick Launch running (in Windows, an icon in the toolbar), quit that too.
- Find your Mozilla profile directory. On Windows, this is often located in c://WINNT/Profiles//Application Data/Mozilla.
- Open the user.js file from that directory in a text editor. If there's no user.js file, create one.
- Add these lines to user.js:

user_pref("capability.policy.policynames", "allowclipboard");
user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.sites", "http://www.mozilla.org");
user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.cutcopy", "allAccess");
user_pref("capability.policy.allowclipboard.Clipboard.paste", "allAccess");

- Save the file, and restart Mozilla. The Clipboard buttons should now function.
